A Brief History of Cola Bottles

The Coca Cola Bottle was first released in 1892, but not many folks know that the flavour was actually invented before that in 1886 by Dr. John Stith Pemberton. He was a local pharmacist, who produced the very syrup for Coca-Cola. He was said to have carried a jug of the new product down the street to Jacobs’ Pharmacy where it was sampled, pronounced to be ‘excellent’ and then swiftly placed on sale for five cents a glass as a soda fountain drink.

The flavour is very distinctive, with its namesake ingredient the kola nut and the coca leaf, though it also boasts citrus, cinnamon, vanilla and caramel which give it the distinctive cola bottle colour.

Since the invention of Cola Bottle sweets, companies have took inspiration and adapted their products to create a fizzy sour version (Bubblegum Bottles) and also the softer, creamy Milk Bottles that we all know to love today.

However, its certainly arguable that the classic gummy Cola Bottles remain the true household favourite.
